World’s Most Expensive Hot Dog – Now $100

World's Most Expensive Hot Dog - Now $100I wasn’t aware that such a category existed, but apparently it’s been a game of one-upmanship for sometime.  Curious.  Previously Serendipity in New York had held the title, at $69 for a rather long hot dog, made with white truffle oil, chunks of black truffle, and pieces of foie gras floating about the top, all enclosed on a pretzel bun.

Not to be outdone, a hot dog which “is deep-fried and rolled in truffle oil, then coated with porcini dust, sprinkled with white truffle shavings, and topped with dollops of creme fraiche, caviar and fresh roe.” was created as a stunt for the Brockton Rox, a Massachusetts Can-Am League baseball team, which sold the dog for the rest of the season for a stout $80.World's Most Expensive Hot Dog, Just For Fun

Now Dougie Luv – his spelling not ours – proprietor of Vancouver’s DougieDogs and the creator of what is now the world’s most expensive hot dog.  The $100 Dragon Dog (in honor of the Year of the Dragon) features a foot-long bratwurst infused with hundred-year-old Louis XIII cognac (two grand a bottle if you’re unfamiliar), Kobe beef seared in olive and truffle oil, fresh lobster, and a “picante sauce” – so secret its ingredients are undisclosed.  It’s $100 Canadian.  Since the Financial Apocalypse, Canadian money is worth about the same as ours – so it’s around $96 US.  That’s one expensive dog.  If you’d like to read more here’s a blip from their press release:

Most Expensive Hot Dog in the World Infused with $2000 Cognac

Would you spend a hundred bucks to taste the most mouth-wateringly delicious gourmet hot dog on the planet?

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 24, 2012 dougieDog Hot Dogs, a popular Vancouver eatery renowned for its creative all-natural hot dogs, has just added the Dragon Dog to its menu — with a price tag of $100. The hot dog features a foot-long bratwurst infused with hundred-year-old Louis XIII cognac, which costs over $2000 a bottle. Also on the dog, Kobe beef seared in olive and truffle oil and fresh lobster. A picante sauce (ingredients undisclosed) ties the flavors together for 12 inches of absolute culinary decadence.

“In designing this hot dog I wanted to come up with something super tasty and high-end that stays true to the traditional identity of the hot dog — a hot dog that any hot dog lover would enjoy,” explained dougieDOG proprietor and Chief Hot Dog Designer dougie luv.

So why the name “Dragon Dog”?

“Two reasons. First, the launch of this hot dog coincides with the beginning of Chinese Year of the Dragon. It also coincides with our appearance on Dragon’s Den, the most popular show on Canadian television.”

Dragon Dog is not a limited time item but a regular feature on a menu which already boasts popular (and much less expensive) choices like the CharlieMac Dog, Seoul Dog, and Super Mario Dog.

Dragon Dog is the first hot dog in the world to sell for three figures. It challenges current Guinness record holder the “haute dog” at Serendipity restaurant in New York which costs $69.

Nice!
