I try to cook with weights rather than measures wherever possible.  It’s more accurate, it’s hugely helpful with items such as flour (the whole dip and sweep thing works great I know) – but it’s so much easier to get a cheap digital scale and be sure….I mean really sure….exactly what you’re getting.  That being said I know not everyone has a scale, or cares really that much.  Anyway, here’s some general info on what equals what….

Other Useful Measures

1 Stick of Butter  =   1/2 Cup  =  4 oz
4 Sticks of Butter =   1 pound  =  16 oz

Average Lemon  =  1 to 3 tablespoons juice  =  1 to 1.5 teaspoons zest

1 oz of chocolate = 1/4 cup grated chocolate

6 oz of chocolate chips = 1 cup of chips

  1. Hello~ I am hoping you might be able to help me with some direction. I would love to get the poster form of the vintage Barrilla ads. Where should I start???
    My husband and I are closing on our first home in Jan. 7, 2013. We chose this date because we met on Jan. 6. We are celebrating our 4 year wedding anniversary Dec. 30, 2012. The reason I tell you this, our last name is: Barilla. I would love to have the Barrilla ads hanging in our new home!!! I thought what a great anniversary present!!! Can you help me?
